New Horizons

Here we are once again standing at the threshold of a new year. I've now been whole foods, plant-based for 2 years and 3 months, and I've been writing this blog for approximately that same amount of time. As my longtime readers know, it's been a positive experience for me. I've lost 145 pounds during that time and I've gotten off of all prescription medicines. In fact, except for B-12, I don't take any pills at all anymore. The other day, I fell off the unicycle that I had given my granddaughter for Christmas. I ended up sprawled flat on the road with a big bump on a very painful hip. My son-in-law wanted me to take some Advil for the pain and to reduce the swelling, but I chose not to. That's how foreign the whole concept of taking any kind of medication has become to me. And my body is accustomed to this new way of life as well. I've noticed a very quick healing from my injuries without taking any medications at all. And two years ago, I wouldn't have even been able to have picked myself up off the road after a fall like that. But this year, I sprang right up.

So, I've been thankful for all that has happened in my life as a result of finding this whole foods, plant-based way of eating. And I've been thankful for all my blog post readers who have been following me over the last couple of years. At the same time, I know that I've picked up a lot of new readers in the past year, and many of them have not seen my earlier postings. I want to do something for those who have not read all of my postings as well as for those who would like to re-read them in order all in one place. Also, some people I know are wanting to have something where they can refer to specific postings from time to time.

Well, there is something that does all of that, and it's called a book. I'm not planning to publish a physical book, but I have decided to put my writings together into an e-book that I would then offer to my readers for a nominal price. So, watch for that in early 2016 if you are interested in it.

The other thing that I want to do though is expand my horizons as I continue to write during 2016. I believe there is an inter-connectedness between all things and what we do in one arena can affect what happens in another. Specifically, how we choose to eat has tremendous effect on the world we live in. How we eat affects our climate, the ecology, the environment, our compassion and how we view other forms of life, our politics, our personal relationships, and even our religion or spirituality.

During 2016, I hope to explore this inter-connectedness between food and the choices we make around food and how that creates the world we live in. And how changing our choices can result in a newer and better world (or a worse world depending on how we change our choices). Hopefully, most of my current readers will want to stay with me on that journey. But I know that some won't. And that's fine; we can part amiably. For those who stay with me, I'm hopeful that they, as well as I will come to a better appreciation of how our food choices affect the world we live in.

So, here's the procedure for getting there. I am going to consolidate my current blog postings into a book format. That book will then be published as an e-book, which I will announce the publication of on this blog site. I will also publish how to obtain a copy of it for yourself and/or your friends. It can make a great gift to give to somebody you care about.

Then once that's done, I will start to post new blog postings that will develop this site into one that focuses on how the food choices we make affect the world we live in. I look forward to taking this journey with you, my faithful readers. Stay subscribed to me and more information will come your way as I develop it.

Thank you and have a happy, good food choices 2016,
J Lanning Smith
