In an editorial in The Annals of Internal Medicine, a call is made by this distinguished medical journal for people to stop wasting money on vitamin pills and mineral supplements. This is based on three separate studies published in the journal that found that not only is there little to no benefit in taking these pills, but that doing so can actually be harmful in some cases.
Now comes word from The New York Times that prescription drugs and dietary supplements can both cause severe liver damage. Taking this information together with the journal articles leads me to believe that eating a plant-strong, whole foods diets is the best way for us to get our needed vitamins and minerals.
We evolved as a species by eating plants. Over the tens of thousands of years of man's time on earth, nature never once produced a pill for us to take. But nature has given us a natural way to get our vitamins and minerals. We just need to take advantage of it.
