For forty years of our marriage, my wife always made black-eyed peas for New Year's Day. It's said that eating black-eyed peas on January 1st always brings good luck throughout the year.. There may be something to it. Last year was the only year that she didn't make the black-eyed peas, although she had bought a bag of them to make.
That bag has been in my pantry all year, and tonight I decided to make the black-eyed peas from last year in hopes of having better luck during 2014. The recipe is from the Happy Herbivore and is a creole recipe that includes onion, roasted red bell peppers, Creole seasoning, black-eyed peas, bay leaves, liquid smoke and hot sauce. I sampled it tonight. It is delicious!
